Monica J. Hubbard

 

After a 27-year career at California Institute of Technology directing choirs and teaching voice, Monica Hubbard opened a consulting practice in 1999 which serves visual and performing arts organizations and social service nonprofits. Her particular areas of interest include strategic planning, board and volunteer recruitment and development, fundraising planning, and using the Internet to help connect people with the resources they need to do their work. In addition to her consulting business e-newsletter “News You Can Use,” Hubbard founded Wired Women, an e-newsletter serving over 400 Pasadena area women leaders, and Altadena Women’s Network, an e-newsletter focused on creating community in the unincorporated town of Altadena. 

 

Hubbard is active in civic affairs and has served on the boards of The Foster Care Project, League of Women Voters Pasadena Area, Pasadena Arts Council, Vox Femina LA, and Zonta Club of Pasadena.  She is a member of the Pasadena chapter of National Women’s Political Caucus, YWCA’s Advocacy Committee; the Rector’s Advisory Group, Women’s Council Steering Committee, and Women’s Issues Committee at All Saints Church; the Foster Care Project; The GAIA, an AIDS relief organization serving women and children in Malawi, South Africa; Pasadena Affordable Housing Group; and she is a founder of the grassroots 50:50 Coalition, created to help get women elected to nonpartisan office and appointed to local commissions and boards. She also serves as a Neighborhood Watch co-captain and on the Altadena Sheriff’s Community Advisory Council.

 

Hubbard holds a BA and MA from Occidental College. Professional affiliations include Americans for the Arts, Association of Fundraising Professionals, and California Association of Nonprofits.

 

She resides in Altadena with her husband Tom.
