This month is the most important meeting of the year! As we ask ourselves, and decide as a group:

Where are we going? Who do we want to be?

We are at a pivotal moment in the history of both our Local Organization, and the National Organization of BPW. What does this group need to be to have significance for women of today? More specifically, what do the members want this LO to be? Are we:

  • A political advocacy group?
  • A feminist group?
  • A networking and member's business development group?
  • A social network?
  • A philanthropic organization?
  • An informational business support group?
  • A personal and emotional women's support group?
  • Something entirely different?
  • Some mix of many things?

BPW was founded originally with a specific mission, to achieve equity for all women in the workplace through advocacy, education and information.

This included strong political advocacy, lobbying at all levels of government to promote legislation to eliminated discrimination against women, especially in the work place.

The mission was also to educate women, through scholarships for young promising women, and also to educate in how to advocate for yourself in the business world, how to recognize discrimination and constructive methods for addressing it. Additionally the mission was to inform members of techniques for working within the business world to be successful as a woman and hear real life stories, perspectives, and some sense of not being all alone.

However this mission seems to not meet many women of today's needs. BPW membership is plummeting on both a national and local level. So the question is:

If that is where we are are coming from:

Where are we going?

Come help us decide! Bring guests if possible, that way we can get input from potential new members too! Please come! This is really important, if you only make one meeting this year, make it this one!
